High Demand for Cybersecurity Professionals

High Demand for Cybersecurity Professionals

With a large part of every person's life moving to the digital space, it's not surprising that cybersecurity is one of the fastest growing industries right now. In fact, it's growing so quickly that companies can't fill all of their cybersecurity positions fast enough. Cybersecurity Ventures has reported that "there will be 3.5 million unfilled cybersecurity positions by 2021." The boom in this job market has been steadily growing too. The demand for this field has grown 3.5 times faster than the rest of the IT field, and about 12 times faster than the demand for all other positions.

What are the benefits?

What can these kinds of jobs offer? Because this industry has such a high demand for individuals with corporate computer training in cybersecurity, the pay is well above average. Ziprecruiter found that, as of April 2019, the average cybersecurity job paid about $95,212 per year. The average IT job made about $75,380. Clearly, cybersecurity is one of the most lucrative places to be in an already profitable field.

Yet another benefit is the job security. With all the the positions that need filling, companies that find good cybersecurity professionals want to hold onto them. Malicious hackers are always on the prowl for companies with weak security systems, and as such, cybersecurity will always be a top priority.

How do you get these jobs?

With all of these unfilled cybersecurity jobs, there's a lot of unclaimed money simply lying around for those willing to put in the work and take it. According to a report from Burning Glass Technologies, 14 percent of all IT positions request some kind of certification. Cybersecurity was even more demanding of new hires. The report stated that 51 percent of companies with vacant cybersecurity positions request at least one of the following certifications: CISSP, CISA, Security+, CISM, GIAC Security Essentials, SSCP, GIAC or GCIH. The most sought-after accreditation from this list was CISSP certification, which 24 percent of cybersecurity postings requested.

Are certifications important?

It has a lot to do with how fast hackers are honing their skills in attempts to breach corporate security systems. Diana Burley, a professor at George Washington University, told Monster.com that "continuous professional development is critical in the field of cybersecurity because the nature of the threat continuously evolves."

Considering this constantly evolving threat of intrusion, there's no better time than now to begin a network security certification course. Thankfully, Career Development Solutions will help make getting a cybersecurity certification quick and painless. Offering certifications like the highly sought after CompTIA Security+ certification, Career Development Solutions is the first step towards a great career in cybersecurity.
